Throughout this broad communications course, I have developed a keen interest in the way we look at artwork and sculpture. I have realised the significance of how an object sits in its surrounding and what it gains from its context and associations. I have played with this idea in my Self Initiated project where I have exhibited found objects as if they were museum pieces. I have returned the objects to their found environments but I have displayed them in boxes, on plinths and with accompanying labels. This tackles people’s reaction to the objects and juxtaposes the world of the white walled gallery with the urban environment of Tufnell Park. Through the presentation of the objects, they are no longer unnoticed and abandoned; by framing them I am questioning what they become. Are the objects now art because I have treated them this way?
